Elizabeth Monroe is a Senior Consultant for BSM Consulting and is based in Scottsdale, Ariz. Ms. Monroe joined BSM in 2013 and provides support to BSM and corporate clients in all aspects of clinical operations, staff training and development, and human resources.

Prior to joining BSM, Ms. Monroe served as the chief operations officer (COO) for a large multispecialty ophthalmic practice in Florida. Her responsibilities included clinic flow and efficiency, compliance, financial benchmarking and budgeting, and staff/leadership development. Additionally, she oversaw the practice’s human resources activities; contract negotiations with third-party payers; implementation and attestation of electronic health records; and the integration of ophthalmology, optometry, and optical specialties within the practice.

Ms. Monroe is a Gallup Institute Certified Strengths Coach and implemented the StrengthsFinder program into the practice in 2008. During her tenure as COO, Ms. Monroe also helped pilot the Certified Patient Service Specialist (CPSS) program, a nationally recognized certification program for ophthalmic staff that is co-sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) and BSM. At BSM, she continues to support the CPSS program and its certificants.

Ms. Monroe is the author of numerous BSM Connection® distance learning courses and is a regular columnist for Ophthalmic Professional. She has appeared as a guest speaker at conventions for ASOA and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), as well as regional meetings throughout the United States. In addition, Ms. Monroe recently served on the ASOA webinar and podcast committee and chairs the practice management program for the Masters in Ophthalmology meeting in Florida.

Ms. Monroe is a Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE), a certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR), and a CPSS certificant. Her education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. and a Master of Arts degree from Rice University in Houston, Texas.
