Building an Educational Resource to Help Society Members Prepare for Certification
The American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators (ASOA) offers avenues for personal and professional growth in ophthalmic practice management. One of the ways it helps advance the industry is through the Certified Ophthalmic Executive (COE) designation. After hearing from members who felt ill-prepared to take the COE examination, ASOA asked BSM for help in developing a comprehensive, educational resource for COE candidates to use as a study guide.
BSM developed a small task force to work with ASOA to identify the areas of knowledge that are most necessary for excellence and professionalism in ophthalmic practice management.
BSM collaborated with ASOA to organize the required areas of knowledge into an online learning center. The recommended design included:
- Study guide content developed by BSM to help COE candidates prepare for the exam.
- Practice management training and continuing education resources.
- Personalized dashboard to facilitate online training.
- Quizzes and a comprehensive “final” test to reinforce key learnings.
BSM developed a turnkey application to educate and develop ophthalmic practice administrators and managers. The website incorporates registration, payment, restricted login, and a personalized dashboard to facilitate online training. The chapters, training exercises, and quizzes help the user prepare for and maintain COE certification by reinforcing key learnings.
